Karting is one of the best ways to experience real racing, whether you’re just looking for fun or aiming to develop professional driving skills. If you’re new to karting, here’s everything you need to know to get started the right way!
1. Choose the Right Karting Track
The first step in your karting journey is finding a good track. Look for a karting center with well-maintained karts, proper safety measures, and experienced staff who can guide you.
🚦 In our location, we recommend Atlanta Motorsports Park, where we train and coach drivers every week from Thursday to Sunday. They also have rental karts, so you can take your first steps into karting!
2. Get the Right Gear
While most rental kart tracks provide helmets, wearing the right outfit makes a difference. You should wear:✅ Comfortable sportswear (no loose clothing)✅ Closed-toe shoes with a good grip✅ A racing suit (if available) or long sleeves for better protection✅ Karting gloves for better steering control
If you plan to kart regularly, investing in your own helmet and gloves will improve your comfort and safety.
3. Learn the Correct Seating Position
Many beginners make the mistake of sitting too far back or gripping the steering wheel too tightly. Here’s the proper karting position:✔️ Sit with your back firmly against the seat✔️ Slightly bend your arms while holding the wheel✔️ Keep your feet rested lightly on the pedals, ready to apply smooth inputs
A good seating position helps with control and reduces fatigue, allowing you to drive faster and more consistently.
4. Control Your Speed – Don’t Just Go Full Throttle!
One of the biggest beginner mistakes is trying to go as fast as possible right away. The key to fast lap times is smooth driving, not just speed. Instead of full throttle and hard braking, practice these techniques:🔹 Apply the gas smoothly, not suddenly🔹 Brake before entering a turn, not while turning🔹 Avoid jerky steering movements—smooth inputs make the kart more stable
5. Look Ahead & Plan Your Moves
Most beginners focus too much on their kart’s nose instead of scanning the track ahead. This makes it harder to react to corners and other drivers. Train yourself to always look ahead, following these tips:👀 Keep your eyes on the exit of the turn, not just the entry👀 Watch other karts around you and anticipate their moves👀 Use track markers (cones, curbs, etc.) to position yourself better
By focusing on where you want to go, your karting performance will improve quickly!
